Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner

I absolutely love this smudge-resistant eyeliner. It’s honestly a staple for any cosmetics bag. Maybelline delivers a self-sharpening, waterproof liner in a beautiful classic onyx shade. I’m the kind of girl that likes a waterline liner, but one of the reasons why this eyeliner works for sensitive eyes is because it’s best applied along your lash line.

Maybelline’s Unstoppable eyeliner doesn’t even let pesky contacts get in the way of a clean-cut line or crisp wing. This pencil is ophthalmologist tested and has been deemed safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens users.

This soft liner comes in five highly pigmented shades: cinnabar, sapphire, onyx, and (my fave) espresso. Unfortunately, I can’t say that this liner is perfect. Although it’s been labeled as smudge-proof, people with oily skin will see residue rubbing off about an hour after application.

And even with a 4.5-star rating on Amazon, I was disappointed to read way too many reviews that complained about inconsistent products. It seems as though quite a few customers received liners that were dried out, pulled on their skin, and crumbled.

Pros
  • Smudge-resistant and waterproof.
  • Ophthalmologist tested.
  • Smooth application, with a soft, pigmented formula.
  • Comes in five colors.
  • Self-sharpening for clean-cut lines.
  • Easy to wash off with mineral water and basic cleansers.
Cons
  • Rubs off on oily skin.
  • Inconsistent product batches.
  • Not the best liner to use on waterlines.

Clinique Quickliner for Eyes – Intense Black

Talk about making an impression! Clinique has created a product that gives the competition a run for its money. The Quickliner for Eyes is one of the best safe eyeliner for eyes I’ve ever come across. Okay, I’m done hyping it up – here are the dirty deets.

I have super sensitive eyes, and this liner does not affect me at all! The formula is so soft that it easily applies onto the water and lash lines. It’s completely fragrance-free and will stay on all day long. Clinique Quickliner for Eyes is allergy tested, and ophthalmologist tested so that it is completely safe for sensitive eyes and contact wearers. It’s also free of parabens and talc.

Like most other gel-like pencils, you don’t need a sharpener for this eyeliner. It has a tube design that twists the liner up when you need more. It comes in ten different colors, although they aren’t very bright or vibrant.

The lineup includes intense clove, intense peridot, intense chocolate, intense ivy, intense charcoal, intense midnight, intense aubergine, intense plum, intense ebony, and intense black.

The bottom line is that it’s just a good liner. The only downsides I found was that the container is super small! Like, ridiculously small – which is a shame because it’s such a high-quality product, and you’re already paying a lot of money for it.

Secondly, you can’t retract the pencil back into the tube. I don’t particularly appreciate wasting products, and this pencil is already sparse, so I personally don’t like the package design.

Pros
  • The formula applies smoothly without dragging on your skin.
  • Allergy-tested
  • Ophthalmologist-tested
  • Safe for contact wearers and sensitive eyes
  • Comes in ten colors
  • Smudge resistant
  • Applies well over eye shadow
Cons
  • Doesn’t twist the product back into the casing
  • Small in size
  • One of the more expensive options

Better’n Ur Eyes Natural Eyeliner Pencil

If you’re looking for an organic hypoallergenic eyeliner – this is your match made in heaven. Better’n Ur Eyes is basically the cleanest eyeliner you can find. It’s hypoallergenic, vegetarian, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and paraben-free.

This liner is unlike any other eyeliner on this list is a completely organic hypoallergenic eyeliner, made with healing oil and botanicals that actually help your lashes grow. Using jojoba and castor oil, you’ll notice your lashes growing longer and thicker as you continue to use Better’n Ur Eyes.

I love Better’n Ur Eyes because they are an honest brand that strives to give its customers the best makeup with the cleanest ingredients and practices. However, there are a few things that you might not like about this eyeliner – especially if you have oily skin.

First of all, this liner isn’t waterproof; but it is water-resistant. This means that as long as you let the formula dry on your lids, you shouldn’t see too much smudging. Unless you have oily skin! The liner is supposed to last up to five hours, with a decent amount of pigmentation. But it smudged within 2 hours on my oily skin.

Thankfully, it’s safe for sensitive eyes, so I didn’t have any redness or tears. I was still disappointed that a liner that seemed so promising turned out not to be a match because of my skin type.

If you don’t have oily skin, I’m sure you’re going to love this eyeliner.

Pros
  • 99% natural. Vegetarian, certified cruelty-free, gluten-free, petroleum-free, toxin-free, paraben-free, and fragrance-free.
  • Made with ingredients that nourish your skin and eyelashes.
  • Created by people who are passionate about clean beauty and serving people with skin and eye sensitivities.
  • Comes in two colors: black and brown.
Cons
  • It isn’t smudge-proof.
  • A wood-tip pencil means that you need a sharpener.
  • The pencil itself is small, only about six inches long.
  • The liner is water-resistant, not waterproof.
  • I feel like the pencil is on the expensive side

Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner

Best Eyeliners for sensitive eyes

I literally have nothing bad to say about this eyeliner! Seriously, I tried it myself and read through dozens of reviews online, so I know everyone else is with me. The most negative reviews I read were those who ordered this eyeliner through Amazon and got lower quality products. So, obviously, I won’t include an Amazon link on this one.

I’m just gonna go ahead and hit all the points on this because there are so many great things about this liner. Okay! Maybelline’s Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner is ophthalmologist, dermatologist, and allergy tested – designed for people with sensitive eyes and skin. The formula has highly concentrated pigments for dramatic looks that last up to 24 hours. ALL DAY! Actually unbelievable!

It’s waterproof, smudge-proof, and comes in different shades: blackest black, brown, sapphire, and charcoal.  Now, I have to note that this gel eyeliner is NOT for beginners! I really try to be inclusive with these reviews so that anyone looking for quality products has several options to choose from. But you will smudge this liner all over that top lid if you’re not careful when applying it.

Pros
  • Rich color with high pigmentation.

  • Ophthalmologist, dermatologist, and allergy-tested.
  • Lasts up to 24 hours, as long as you allow it to set.
  • Affordable with high quality.
  • Works on your lash line and waterline.
  • You get a lot of product at a decent price.
Cons
  • Using gel eyeliner can be tricky

Choosing The Best Eyeliner for Sensitive Eyes

1. It all comes down to the ingredients. The truth is that you’re not the only one with sensitive eyes struggling to find makeup products that are reliable and high in quality. When shopping for a new eyeliner, start by looking at the ingredients used to make the product. Opt for liners that have the fewest toxic ingredients, including formulas that are: cruelty-free, paraben-free, petroleum-free, and fragrance-free.

2. Look for liners that are ophthalmologist and allergy tested (bonus if it’s dermatologist-tested too). It’s usually a safe bet to trust the word of the experts. They know what ingredients and products are harmful to your eyes and/or cause sensitivity reactions. Nowadays, the products that have been tested for allergens say so on the packaging, so they’re easy to pick out from the rest.

3. Always choose smudge-proof and waterproof liners. Eyeliners that dry quickly and stay in place won’t run into your eyes or smudge on your skin. This sounds like a no-brainer, but anyone with sensitive eyes knows how quickly they react when a product isn’t right for them. And getting any residue in your eye can cause irritation that lasts for hours. Eyeliner that is pigmented will stay put longer, without drying out your skin or eyes.

Best Eyeliner for Sensitive Eyes: The Final Verdict

If you read through the review, then you know the choice is clear. Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Liner is the next level. While I can’t say that the application method is for everyone (drawing a perfect wing with a brush can be a challenge), I think the quality and affordability make this liner one of the best on the market. Period.
