Jason Fragrance Free Shampoo

JĀSON products are highly rated across all platforms. And it’s not surprising because their shampoos and conditioners are made with wholesome ingredients that are gentle yet safe and effective for all hair types. “JĀSON” means “healer” in Greek, which is exactly what this shampoo does. It soothes and hydrates your strands for softer, shinier hair.

Measuring as the biggest bottle on this list, JĀSON Fragrance Free Shampoo is beyond worth the price. I tend to have wavy hair that can get frizzy, especially during the summer. I used JĀSON shampoo for years because it doesn’t strip my hair of its moisture but still makes it manageable to style. The brand doesn’t use any parabens, SLS, or phthalates, which I absolutely love for my hair products. And its ingredients include aloe vera and vitamin B5 to help soothe sensitive scalps.

However, if you go the JĀSON route, be aware that this shampoo doesn’t lather. This was the biggest change that I noticed when using it. While we usually associate bubbles with cleanliness, experts continue to recommend JĀSON shampoo even though it doesn’t have that effect. Once you get past the no-lather formula, you won’t want to use anything else.

Pros
  • Has Aloe Vera
  • Makes hair less frizzy
  • Safe for all hair types
  • Doesn’t contain parabens
Cons
  • The product doesn’t lather

Earth Science Fragrance Free Shampoo

I love Earth Science’s formula because it’s specifically created for people with scalp sensitivity. It’s made with coconut-based cleansers and emollients that moisturize your hair by protecting its natural oils. If you’re looking for a shampoo that promotes healthy hair and scalp, then this is exactly what you should be using.

If you’ve read any of my other articles, then you know how hard I try to only use vegan and cruelty-free products. Not only are Earth Science products cruelty-free, but they also have natural extracts to rejuvenate your hair and make it easier to style and control.

However, this shampoo does contain sodium myreth sulfate – which is the biggest downside! We all know how bad sulfates can be for your hair, even a mild one like sodium myreth sulfate. That means that anyone with fine hair might see more dryness when using this shampoo. BUT, if you have oily hair, then this product might be your perfect match. It will help to control excessive oil without completely drying out your hair.

Pros
  • For people with sensitive scalps
  • Made with chamomile
  • Increases shine, body, and texture
  • Paraben-free
Cons
  • Can dry out your hair if used too often

Desert Essence Organics Shampoo

Desert Essence Organics Fragrance Free Shampoo has good reviews across the board, no matter where you look. I automatically love any company that makes vegan and gluten-free products. Desert Essence is even Leaping Bunny Certified – which is hard to find in any hair product.

Using green tea, aloe vera, jojoba seed oil, and coconut, Desert Essence soothes your scalp and nourishes your hair. Within a month, you’ll see a noticeable difference, with softer and shinier hair. What sends this shampoo over the top is the tube packaging that ensures you get every single drop out of it. You only need to use a small amount, and it won’t weigh down your strands.

Pros
  • Won’t weigh you hair down
  • Tube packaging
  • You only need a small amount
  • Plant-based
Cons
  • It can easily strip your natural oils

DHS Clear Shampoo

It’s no wonder why DHS is considered to be one of the best fragrance free shampoo at Walmart. This shampoo literally has 5 stars on Amazon, Target, and Lala Daisy. So you know the love for it is real. DHS Clear Shampoo is the only shampoo on this list that is recommended by dermatologists. I love that this formula doesn’t include any dyes or fragrances.

I love the rich, luscious lather this formula creates in the shower. It leaves your hair super soft and with tons of body. I do wish the bottle was bigger because I can go through 8 ounces pretty fast. But if you have thinning hair or a sensitive scalp, I absolutely recommend DHS.

However, I have to call out DHS for using sulfates in their products! With so many other ingredients out there that are actually better for your strands, I don’t know why companies still use sulfates! Their list of ingredients definitely affected the way I rated this otherwise amazing shampoo.

Pros
  • No dyes
  • Gently celanses your hair
  • Safe for color-treated hair
  • Great for all hair types
Cons
  • It has sulfates and benzyl alcohol

Best Fragrance Free Shampoo at Walmart FAQ’s

Why are Sulfates Considered Bad for Your Hair?

Sulfates are commonly used in shampoos to make the formula sudsy when combined with water. The sulfates also remove grime and dead skin cells from your scalp when washing your hair. However, sulfates can also strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving your strands dry and brittle. Also, it can make your scalp more sensitive by causing redness, itching, and dry skin.

Why Use a Fragrance Free shampoo if Your Scalp Isn’t Sensitive?

If you don’t have a sensitive scalp, why use a fragrance free shampoo? Until recently, the smell of shampoo was a determining factor for which shampoo I bought. While fragrances mask bad odors, that isn’t a good enough reason to rely on perfumed products especially when it comes to your hair’s health.

While you may not have a sensitive scalp, synthetic chemicals used to create fragrances have been linked to infertility, congenital disabilities, asthma, allergies, cancer, and neurotoxicity.

Best Fragrance Free Shampoo at Walmart: The Final Verdict

I’m all for a good deal, especially when it comes to beauty products. I mean, when you’re obsessed as I am, it’s always better to save a few bucks when you can. While Walmart tends to get a bad rap because of their limited selection and generally lower quality products, you can find really great hair and skin products if you know where to look!

After many trial and errors, I can say that Desert Essence is hands down the best fragrance free shampoo at Walmart. My hair tends to get oily throughout the day, so I can’t wash it too often. Desert Essence balances out your oils while still making your hair softer, shiner, and stronger than ever before.

Lastly, I LOVE the packaging. Shampoo in a tube means you can squeeze out every last drop. While the tube is only 8 oz, I think the results are well worth the money. Which one is your favorite?
